SPIKE Jan- August 2007

Awarded funding for creative development as part of the Arts Council Insights Programme; Invigorate.

This period of time and research and development of project SPIKE, enables me to devote time and resources to develop the work.

The work builds on my ethos of socially engaged practice and navigates across territories by placing SPIKES in offices ultimately creating a large scale installation for a gallery context.

The SPIKE in residence plays many roles including a catalyst for debate, a “breakout’ room in the office, a visual signifier of production and waste and an opportunity to slow down time; focus and revisit the ordinary, the usual, the routine. The process encourages shared dialogue and explores individuals associations in relations to work, flow, production consumption and waste.

SPIKE was a central part of Office Investigation 1. Located in a Local Authority open plan office this residency, included SPIKE, the ATMOPSHERE board to monitor the office mood and pedometers to record how many steps were taken during the work day.
